International Club in Actions

...Have Fun with Us...

Picture OneInternational Club gives students a chance to get involved in a wide variety of campus activities. We participate in many on-campus activities by both hosting our own events and by helping/participating on events hosted by other organizations.

On our weekly meetings (held every Thursday at 7pm in VH 1148), we include discussing business, games, Member Focus, and Global Focus as our activities. Each week, different members volunteer to do Global Focus, which is an informative international presentation focusing on the topic that the presenting student feels is important to share with the club. Past presentation topics include the genocide in Darfur, kabuki theatre, and holidays in other countries.

Activities held outside the meetings vary every year and they include Parade of Flags, Massage Parlor, Midnight Masquerade, Cultural Feast, Date Auction, and many more.Picture Four

For those interested on listening to the tunes of other cultures, our Semi Formal is guaranteed to please their need. Our Semi Formal is held every semester and it features music from all over the world. Where there is a beat, we will play it. This gives an opportunity for people to socialize and dance until the night ends.

Our cultural feast, on the other hand, is specifically designed to satisfy our members' appetite for cultural food. Each month during the school semester, members are given a chance to showcase some food from their country of origin and have the other members to taste it in an informal dinner situation. This event is designed specifically by members and for members, giving them the chance to know and serve each other better. To display this food diversity to the whole campus residents, we do so through our event known as the International Dinner.

Picture SixThe International Dinner was voted the best event on campus. It is usually held during the fall semester in a formal fashion. Tickets are $10 and all 300 were sold out within a day of going on sale this semester, which shows how popular this event is. This amazing dinner pulls together more than 20 authentic dishes from all over the world prepared by teams of international students, and at the end, the audience gets to vote on their favorite dish of the night. As you eat, you will be entertained by several cultural performances by Truman’s own students, get to learn about what being an international student at Truman is like, and have the opportunity to test your global knowledge in our international trivia.Picture Two

If you’ve heard about American Idol, we have our own version here at Truman: International Idol. This is a fun-filled international talent show in which anyone can apply (by yourself or in a group) to perform an act that showcases his or her talent. This year’s International Idol is scheduled for March. It is typically held during the spring semester; and in 2002, it was voted as the most outstanding event of the year. The International Idol brings cultures together, forming a spectacle that will definitely make your night.

Picture ThreeIn conclusion, all of our activities are targeted to exhibit the diversity existing on our campus. So far, with the participations of the members and the community, we have been able to do so succesfully. There is no question, however, that we can still take it to a whole new level. With your participation, we are hoping that we will be able to pull off the best event of all. Come join the International Club and have a blast with us!
