About UsMore About International Club...How It All Started..."The International Club at Truman State University Truman works to promote a better understanding, unity and cooperation between all students." was formed and chartered in the 1935 by a group of students who were dedicated in creating a social awareness and understanding between American students and students who were foreign born or/and recent immigrants to the U.S. Today, I-Club continues to achieve these aims, and also aims at fostering an understanding between International students about each others’ cultures as well. aims to bring awareness about international issues on campus, openness to ethnic diversity, as well as provide services to the campus and Kirksville community through international exchange. The International Club is open to all students at Truman regardless of age, race, ethnicity, nationality, political affiliation or sexual orientation. Members pay a membership fee, attend regular meetings, participate in and plan I-Club events. I-Club has been at the core of a number of events on campus since it has been formed. This includes such annual events as: The International Dinner, International Week, Fall Formal, and International Idol. I-Club gives students a chance to get involved in other campus activities with American students such as the Homecoming Parade and Diversity Retreat. I-Club lends its support to other organizations on campus during Asian History Week and Black History Month. In Kirksville, I-Club organizes trips to Leisure world for bowling or roller-skating, the Aquatic Center for swimming, and various other activities. It also gets members together to organize social activities during the weekends. We also go to Thousand Hill state resort for picnics. In 2002 a Peer Mentor Program was launched by I-Club, the aims of this program are to foster Intercultural Exchange between International students and to provide new students with a “buddy” from a new country, to help them adjust in American and Truman culture. In 2001, I-Club decided to globalize on the World Wide Web. I-Club launched its webpage, as well as two list serves. One, is intended for all alumni, students and professionals connected with Truman who want to keep in touch long after graduation or while at school, and provides an excellent forum for networking. The other, is intended for students who are currently at Truman. I-Club also launched an online “Chat room” to help students keep in contact better. is always open to new ideas, and we hope that through opening the channels of communication, these can be shared!! |
